Trivet wins second Michelin star:A CWO Dinner venue spotlight

Since opening Trivet in 2019, Chef Jonny Lake and Master Sommelier, Isa Bal, have overseen the rise of a culinary behemoth nestled away in Bermondsey. These efforts have culminated in the pair – along with their dedicated team – receiving a second Michelin Star at the 2024 Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland last month.

We have been hosting Chief Wine Officer events at Trivet since 2023 to widespread acclaim for our attendees. As the Michelin Guide inspectors themselves have said, “Look no further for some of the boldest flavours in London.”

So what makes the Trivet team tick? And what can CWO guests expect from this shining jewel of the London food scene?

The restaurant

The name Trivet is derived from the metal tripod once used to contain pots and kettles over fire in ages past. This symbol is indicative of the warmth and balance in how Lake and Bal have worked together to create something unique to them.

Trivet boasts an open kitchen, creating an intimate link between diners, chefs, and food. The team’s insistence on excellence in the marriage of food and drink elevates the dining experience, taking inspiration from textures and flavours from around the world. Beginning with simplicity before allowing rigorous experimentation to guide their hand, the final result is something wonderful, celebrating seasonality and diversity in equal measure.

Two Michelin stars

2024 marks the fifth anniversary of Lake and Bal’s standalone adventure. So it’s fitting that this is also the year they received their second Michelin star. This remarkable accolade is perhaps best illustrated by the glowing words of the Michelin Guide Inspector who reviewed them:

“Here is a restaurant that just seems to get everything right. The chefs in the open kitchen craft expertly prepared, fuss-free dishes using prime produce; the combinations are perfectly balanced, flavours are assured and the execution is superb. It’s a pleasure eating food of such clarity and confidence… Personable wine service adds to the experience, as does the thoughtfully curated list that includes hitherto unexplored regions. The charming service team also help to make dining here such a joyous occasion.”

Private dining

It goes without saying that guests of CWO Dinners attending Trivet’s private dining room can look forward to a truly memorable experience. The private Mustard Room is suitably close to the kitchen, while also discretely separate from the main restaurant.

You can expect specially curated menus to accompany your wine tasting experience and the same level of culinary excellence as any paying guest.

The space is roomy and dual aspect, with floor to ceiling curtains along two sides that make a comfortable and refined setting in which to share insights and connections. On Summer evenings, these curtains can be opened to allow in the natural evening light.
