Our Chief Wine Officer VIP networking events have been described as some of the best in the world. In the next few months we have a number of dinners and roundtables in the USA, UK & Europe – and if you are attending, or interested, here is how to get the most out of them as a guest.
ARRIVE IN GOOD TIME FOR THE CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION
We start with a vintage champagne reception. On arrival you will be presented with your first glass of fizz for tasting, and then be introduced to some of your peers. Approximately 20 minutes later a different glass will be offered for tasting. At least one will be champagne, but both are poured blind. Here is where the fun starts – you will be asked to guess which one is the real champagne and which one might be a copy. Maybe which one is the £100 bottle and which one the £30 bottle. This is purely a practice and a taste of things to come.
BE READY TO HAVE YOUR BUSINESS HEAD ON FOR 30 MINUTES
After the champagne reception we will invite you to be seated for diner. There will be a 10-15 minute pre-dinner speech from one of your peers in the industry, which will finish on a question. We’ll invite you discuss this question amongst your table whilst we get the first course out. In this way you will get to see what everyone else in your industry is thinking about the particular subject matter – and perhaps where you stand amongst them.
BE PREPARED TO BE PART OF A TEAM
As the meal progresses we will commence the Chief Wine Officer experience – and your table will become your team. There will be some easy questions about the pair of wines tasted with each course, and maybe the odd general knowledge challenge. Nominating a table captain is always a highlight, and remember that scientists claim that females have more taste buds than males!
THERE WILL BE EDUCATION, ENTERTAINMENT AND A HINT OF COMPETITION
After the business content and as the Chief Wine Officer experience progresses you will be hosted by a Master of Wine who will pose inclusive questions about the wines being tasted and some advice as to how to answer them as a team. And who doesn’t want to win a prize and become The Chief Wine Officer!
NETWORK AND MAKE NEW ACQUAINTANCES
Our events are maximised for networking – including tricks like ‘networking zones’ and ‘table rotation’. We know that you may have come with a colleague, but hopefully you’ll leave with even more contacts.
LET US KNOW WHAT YOU LIKED AND WHAT WE CAN IMPROVE
We ask for feedback at all our events, and over the years we’ve had some great comments and a few ways to improve what we do. See www.chiefwineofficer.com/event-reviews for more on what has been said.
